Talent Management Practices and Organizational Performance of State-Owned Universities in South East, Nigeria

The study was to evaluated talent management practices and organizational performance of state-owned universities in South East, Nigeria. The specific objectives were to evaluate the relationship between employee engagement and graduate employability in State Owned Tertiary Universities in South East, Nigeria and ascertain the relationship between talent acquisition and retention and institutional visibility in State Owned Universities in South East, Nigeria. The study employed descriptive survey design. The area of this study was the South East of Nigeria. The population of the study were five (5) universities in South East, with three thousand two hundred and fifty (3265) selected staff (Academic and non-academic) from the selected Universities. The study adopted Bowley’s (1937) statistical formula in selecting the sample unit and the sample size for the study which was 344 academic staff out of a total population of 3265. A total of 323 staff returned the questionnaire accurately filled, which gave 94 percent response rate. Data from the questionnaire were analyzed with the aid of SPSS version 23 using simple, percentages and correlation co-efficient. The findings indicated that employee engagement had significant positive relationship with the graduate employability in state owned tertiary universities in south east, Nigeria, (r=.064 < .754, P < 0.05). Talent acquisition and retention had significant positive relationship with the institutional visibility of state-owned universities in south east, Nigeria, (r=.599 <.842, P < 0.05). The study concluded that Employee engagement and Talent acquisition and retention had significant positive relationship with the graduate employability and institutional visibility of state-owned universities in south east, Nigeria. For effective team work there should be for proper plan for employee engagement and maintain good compensation to retain them
