INNOVATIVE URBAN DESIGN AND COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY IN ENUGU METROPOLITAN ENUGU STATE NIGERIA

Abstract

The study examined the effect of Innovative urban design on community sustainability in Enugu Metropolitan, Enugu State Nigeria. The specific objectives are to; Examine the effect of green infrastructure on community sustainability in Enugu Metropolitan, Evaluate the effect of sustainable transportation on community sustainability in Enugu Metropolitan, Enugu State Nigeria. A descriptive cross-sectional research design was adopted for the study. Purposive sampling was employed in the survey to choose the metropolitan area. A structure questionnaire design with a five point Likert scale was used to collected data for the study. Regression analysis was used in SPSS 28.0 to analyzed the data. The result revealed that green infrastructure has a significant positive effect on Community Sustainability with a p-values of 0.001<0.05 in Enugu Metropolis, also Sustainable transportation has a significant effect on community sustainability with a p-values of 0.013<0.05 in Enugu Metropolis, Enugu State Nigeria. Collectively, the study concluded that these urban design strategies foster a sustainable community by aligning development goals with environmental preservation and social well-being. It is recommended that local authorities and urban planners prioritize the expansion and integration of green infrastructure and sustainable transportation systems in future development projects
