Abstract

This study determined the effect of succession planning on organizational effectiveness in Nigerian tertiary institutions. This study adopted a survey research design. A sample of 384 staff was used from a population of 9793 using Taro Yamane formula. Data were collected through the questionnaires distributed to the respondents. The data were analyzed with five point likert scale, and the hypothesis was tested with simple regression analysis with aid of SPSS version 20.0. From the analysis, the study revealed that succession planning has a positive significant effect on effectiveness of tertiary institutions in Enugu State. Based on the findings of the study, the study recommended among others that to motivate and retain skilled and talented personnel, universities should implement a proactive performance management system to create a more transparent and dynamic institutional culture.
