EXPLORATION OF EMPLOYEE RELATIONS IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTHORITIES OF DELTA STATE, NIGERIA: A QUALITATIVE INQUIRY.

This study explored employee relations on local government authorities in Delta State, Nigeria. The research aimed to investigate the effect of communication practices and training and development opportunities on job satisfaction and retention rates. A descriptive survey design was used, with a sample of 373 employees from a population of 10,934. Simple linear regression and descriptive statistical analysis were conducted using SPSS. The result showed that a significant positive relationship between employee relations dimensions (communication practices and training development opportunities) and local government employees’ dimensions (job satisfaction and retention rates). The study concluded that effective employee relations, characterized by robust communication practices and ample training and development opportunities, are essential for enhancing job satisfaction, retention, and overall organizational performance, particularly in local government authorities in Delta State, Nigeria. The study recommends that local government authorities should prioritize effective communication practices to foster a positive work environment. It is recommended that employees should be involved in decision-making processes to enhance job satisfaction and employee engagement. It is recommended also that training and development opportunities should be provided to employees to improve retention rates and overall performance
