SPATIO-TEMPORAL MAPPING OF THE FLOODED AREAS OF THE CITY OF SAN PEDRO FROM 2004 TO 2024 (SOUTH-WEST OF COTE D'IVOIRE) : THE HYDROGEMO MORPHOLOGICAL APPROACH

The development of cities generally includes anthropogenic pressure on wetland areas. The poor spatial dynamics of wetland areas leads to various impacts, including flooding. The hydrogeomorphological approach was used to delineate the flood zones of the city of San Pedro. The archival images of the city and the various slope and drainage density maps were the main data in this study. The areas of five major marshes in the city have been mapped over 20 years with an interval of 5 years. Flood zone 1 has lost 32.68% of its area to human development. Zone 2 finds itself in 2024 with 80% of its area filled in, just like zone 3 which has 86% of its area transformed. Zone 4 and Zone 5 have lost 69% and 82% of their areas respectively. In twenty years, the majority of flood-prone areas have had three-quarters (3/4) of their areas urbanized, thus increasing the risk of flooding in the city
