EFFECT OF CHAT GENERATIVE PRE-TRAINED TRANSFORMER (CGPT) EDUCATIONAL SOFTWARE ON STUDENT’S PERFORMANCE IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN ANYIGBA KOGI STATE

The need to activate Artificial intelligence (AI) to teaching and learning in schools has become imminent. The study investigated the effect of chat generative pre-trained transformer educational software (CGPT) on junior secondary student’s performance in English Studies in Anyigba Kogi State Nigeria. Three purposes, research questions and hypotheses guided the study. The quasi-experimental research design was used for the study. The population of the study consisted of junior secondary school three (JSS3) students of 2024/2025 academic session in Anyigba Kogi State numbering 9,938. The sample size for the study consisted of 143 (61 Males and 82 Females) drawn from six intact classes in the six villages in Anyigba Kogi State. Multi stage sampling was used to draw six intact classes from the six villages in Anyigba Kogi State. English Studies Performance Test (ESPT) were the instrument used for data collection. Kuder Richardson formula 20 (K-R 20) determined the reliability of (ESPT), which yielded a reliability estimate of 0.67. Mean, standard deviations and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) were used to analyze the pre-test and post-test data and the research questions and hypotheses raised for the study. The analysis revealed that the chat generative pre-trained transformer educational software (CGPT) enhanced students’ performance in English Studies more than the conventional method. The study recommends that chat generative pre-trained transformer educational software (CGPT) should be encouraged in schools to enhance students’ performance in English Studies.
