Abstract

The main purpose of the study was to determine the influence of educational facilities on student's academic performance in public secondary schools in Anambra State. Two research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The study was conducted in Anambra State. The population of the study comprised 267 public secondary school principals in Anambra State. The entire population of the study was sampled. The instrument used for data collection in this study is a structured questionnaire developed by the researcher. The instrument was validated by three experts in education. The reliability of the instruments was established through a pilot test. The data collected were analyzed using Cronbach Alpha. This yielded co-efficient values of 0.91 and 0.84 for clusters 1 and 2 respectively with a general reliability co-efficient of 0.88. Data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed that academic facilities and recreational facilities positively influence students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Anambra State to a high extent. The researcher concludes based on these findings that educational facilities positively influence students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Anambra State. Based on the findings, the study recommended, among others, that the Post Primary Schools Services Commission (PPSSC) should prioritise the provision, regular maintenance, and systematic upgrading of academic facilities to enhance students’ academic performance in public secondary schools. Furthermore, it was recommended that principals should actively engage and collaborate with local community stakeholders to develop, maintain, and expand recreational facilities, thereby creating a more supportive and stimulating learning environment for students
