LEADERSHIP IN SUSTAINABLE EDUCATION FOR INNOVATIVE PEDAGOGIES FOR 21ST-CENTURY STUDENTS IN NIGERIA

The study is aimed at providing insight into leadership in sustainable education for the innovative pedagogies for 21st century students in Nigeria. The study reviews the concepts of leadership, styles of leadership such as autocratic leadership style, bureaucratic leadership style, democratic leadership style, laissez-Fare leadership style, transformation leadership style, situational leadership style. Sustainable education is necessary for students’ since it is a lifelong learning process and an integral part of quality education, basic principles of education for sustainability, innovative pedagogies for 21st century students in Nigeria, training on pedagogy such as, adopting an inclusive approach, learning mode centric pedagogy, learning method-based pedagogy. The objectives for innovative pedagogical approaches were listed. The importance of pedagogy in the teaching and learning process was outlined. Broad categories of pedagogical approaches such as behaviorism, constructivism, social constructivism, and liberationist were discussed. Leadership in sustainable education is a form of pedagogy that interweaves all aspects of our activities and knowledge to promote sustainable ways of living for students in the 21st century. The study suggests among others that; sustainable educational leadership should prioritize continuous professional development for teachers and administrators to equip them with the skills needed for innovative pedagogies. Government agencies, universities, and private stakeholders should collaborate to organize regular training programs, workshops, and certification courses focused on emerging teaching methodologies such as digital learning, competency-based education, and problem-solving approaches. Educators must be trained in integrating technology into their teaching, fostering critical thinking, and adopting student-centered learning models that align with 21st-century educational standards
