Abstract

This study explored the empirical relationship between talent retention dynamics and organizational resilience of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. A cross-sectional survey design was adopted to gather insights from a sample of 254 SME owners in Yenagoa Metropolis, Bayelsa State. Data were collected using a questionnaire as the primary instrument. Bivariate analysis was conducted inferentially using the Spearman Rank Correlational Coefficient through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings revealed a positive and significant relationship between talent retention dynamics and organizational resilience of SMEs. The study concluded that by integrating welfare benefits and recognition into their strategic frameworks, businesses could foster a resilient workforce capable of adapting to a constantly changing business environment. To maximize the impact of recognition, SME owners and management were encouraged to develop tailored recognition programs that meaningfully acknowledge employee achievements, such as through newsletters or team meetings. Additionally, it was recommended that SMEs should establish feedback loops, enabling employees to contribute risk-reduction strategies related to their welfare needs.
