SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY AND THE PERFORMANCE OF PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURING FIRMS IN ABUJA FCT, NIGERIA

The study examined the social sustainability and the performance of pharmaceutical firms in FCT Abuja, Nigeria. The specific objectives are to: examine the relationship between Occupational health and safety on the quality of service and evaluate the relationship between Well-being of staff and output. The population of the study was three hundred and thirteen (313) staff which consists of management and senior staff of the organizations understudy. The study used the survey approach and simple random sampling. The primary source was the administration of questionnaire. The study made use of the whole population due to small number. Two hundred and eighty three (283) staff returned the questionnaire and accurately filled. Data was presented and analyzed by mean score (3.0 and above agreed while below 3.0 disagreed) and standard deviation using Sprint Likert Scale. The hypotheses were analyzed using Pearson correlation co-efficient (r). The findings indicated that Occupational health and safety had positive significant relationship with the quality service, (r = .573<.869, p<.05 and Well-being of staff had positive significant relationship with the output, (r = .667 <.834, p<.05) The study concluded that Occupational health and safety and Well-being of staff had positive significant relationship with the quality of service and output of pharmaceutical firms in Abuja FCT, Nigeria. The study recommended that the management of pharmaceutical firms should endeavour to have plans for occupational safety as this will improved employee relations and morale (a safer work environment is a less stressful work environment).
