Abstract

After decades of independence, Nigeria is still struggling and having difficulties keeping the constituent parts of the country intact and with features of a failed state everywhere. Against this background, the paper interrogates the challenges and prospects for achieving the Nigerian nationhood. The study relied on secondary sources of data collection and adopted the theory of “Structural-Functionalism” as its analytical framework. The study found that the imperative of Nigeria’s national rebirth cannot be faulted. It recommended that the Nigeria project must be discussed and pursued without ethnic or religious sentiments as well as political bias in order to stop the disintegration of the country and foster nationhood
