Abstract

This study investigated induction programmes and employee job satisfaction in selected Banking institutions in Benin City, Edo State with the specific objectives of the study which were to examine the effect of compensation package, training and development and work environment on employee retention in selected Banking institutions in Benin City, Edo State. The study applied structured questionnaires to a sample size of 105 respondents drawn using Taro Yameni. The data generated was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics such as frequencies, means and standard deviations were used; inferential statistics such as Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used. The findings of the study showed that there is no significant effect between compensation package, training and development and employee retention in the selected Banking institutions in Benin City, Edo state but there is a significant effect between work environment and employee retention in the selected Banking institutions in Benin city, Edo state. Based on the findings of this study, and in line with its specific objectives, the institutions have not put the necessary amount of emphasis and resources into developing an effective compensation package, training and development program for their new employees and it is recommended that there need to be an improvement in developing an effective compensation package and training and development programs for their new employees because of the benefits they stand to gain from both, meanwhile they have put the necessary amount of emphasis and resources into developing an effective work environment for their new employees and it is recommended that they need to be consistent in maintaining the current state of their work environment.
