THE IMPACT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS ON DEVELOPMENT OF IGBO-EZE NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA

This study examines the impact of community development projects on the socio-economic growth, infrastructure development, and overall quality of life in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area (LGA), Enugu State, Nigeria. The research aims to assess the impact of community development projects on socio-economic growth in Igbo Eze North LGA, Enugu State, Nigeria, to evaluate the influence of community development projects on infrastructure development within Igbo Eze North LGA and to examine the effects of community development projects on the quality of life of the residents of the area. The study employs a descriptive cross-sectional survey design to capture the current state of socio-economic conditions and infrastructure developments as well as community perceptions of these projects. Data were collected using a combination of questionnaires, interviews, and direct observations. The study population consisted of residents, local business owners, and community leaders within Igbo Eze North LGA. A total of 350 respondents were selected using stratified random sampling to ensure representation from different sectors within the community. The findings revealed that community development projects significantly contribute to job creation, with 42.86% of respondents identifying it as a primary benefit. Access to social services and economic opportunities for youth were reported by 37.14% and 34.29% of respondents, respectively. Infrastructure improvements, such as road development and water supply, were acknowledged by 51.43% and 45.71% of respondents, respectively. Hypothesis testing showed that community development projects have a significant positive impact on the socio-economic growth of residents in Igbo Eze North LGA (χ² = 24.64, p < 0.05) and significantly contribute to the enhancement of infrastructure development in Igbo Eze North LGA (χ² = 21.14, p < 0.05). The study recommends continuous investment in infrastructure, targeted interventions for youth empowerment, and sustainable strategies for environmental protection to maximize the benefits of community development projects. In conclusion, the research underscores the vital role of community development projects in promoting socio-economic growth, infrastructure development, and quality of life in Igbo Eze North LGA. The insights gained provide a valuable foundation for policymakers and stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that foster sustainable development and improve the well-being of the local population.
