EFFECT OF MIGRATION ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF URBANIZATION IN ENUGU METROPOLIS ENUGU, STATE NIGERIA

Abstract

The study examined the effect of Migration on the Development of Urbanization in Enugu Metropolis, Enugu State Nigeria. The specific objectives are to; examine the effect of education on the Development of Urbanization in the Enugu Metropolis and evaluate the effect of employment on the Development of Urbanization in the Enugu Metropolis. A descriptive cross-sectional research design was adopted. A structured questionnaire design with a five-point Likert was used to collect primary data for the study. Regression analysis was used in SPSS 28.0 to analyze the data. The result revealed that Education has a significant effect on the Development of Urbanization in the Enugu Metropolis with a value of (5.311; p-value =0.013). Also, Employment has a significant effect on the Development of Urbanization in the Enugu Metropolis with a value of (0.991; p-value=0.001). The study concludes that Migration has a significant positive effect on the Development of Urbanization in Enugu Metropolis. The study recommended that Urban planning in Enugu Metropolis should be inclusive and forward-looking, taking into account the effects of migration, education, and employment on urban development. Authorities should focus on creating sustainable and well-organized urban spaces that can support the growing population
