Abstract

This study examined the prospects and challenges of the Nigerian aviation industry using the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu as a case study. Two main explanatory variables were used; the investment opportunities in the industry and the risk factors inherent in the industry. The Chi-square statistical measurement method was adopted to test two hypotheses raised for the study. The test outcome revealed at the 5% critical level that both hypotheses were statistically significant. Against the baseline statistical table reading value of 36.4, the first test reached an empirical value of 58.1 while the second reached a value of 58.4 both of which are greater than 36.4 leading to the rejection of the null hypotheses on both tests. The study concluded that investment opportunities exist side by side with inherent business risks in the industry. It recommended a better regulatory framework, a deeper financial base, more security, and more infrastructure investment in the industry for profitable investment to occur
