Abstract

Nigeria, Africa's largest economy, faces persistent challenges in fuelling its economic growth and addressing governance issues. The country's political landscape is marred by political exclusion, economic marginalization, and social injustice, hindering its development and democratic consolidation. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between political exclusion, economic marginalization, and social injustice in Nigeria, and explore the potential of decentralization and inclusive governance in addressing these challenges. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study combined both qualitative and quantitative data from a survey of 1,000 respondents, case studies, and literature review. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics, regression analysis, and thematic analysis. The study applied the democratic polity theory, which posits that democratic governance and inclusive development are essential for addressing social and economic inequalities. Findings revealed that political exclusion, economic marginalization, and social injustice are significant obstacles to democratic governance in Nigeria. Decentralization and inclusive governance were found to be effective in addressing these challenges. The study recommends prioritizing decentralization, inclusive governance, and democratic polity to address Nigeria's socio-economic and political challenges. This study contributes to the ongoing discourse on democratic governance and inclusive development in Nigeria. Its findings and recommendations offer insights for policymakers, scholars, and practitioners seeking to promote Nigeria as a truly democratic polity in Africa and the global landscape
