Electric power supply in developing countries like Nigeria is grossly inadequate and erratic to meet the demand of its ever-increasing population. Therefore, the need to evaluate the performance of important power plants is very essential. This research considered the comparative performance evaluation of Egbin and Afam VI power plants in Nigeria with emphasis on performance indicators such as capacity factor, percentage loss in power generation and revenue loss due to reduction in generation of the plants for a period of six (6) years (2017 – 2022). The results obtained indicate that for Egbin power plant, the average capacity factor is 43.4% and that of Afam VI Power Plant, shows average capacity factor of 18.68% through the six years period under investigation as against the international best practice that lies within 50% to 80%. The percentage shortfall of energy generated for Egbin Power Plant and Afam VI Power Plant under the six year of investigation was 56.6% and 68.67% respectively as against an international best practice of 5%-10%. The revenue loss at Egbin Power Plant due to power outage within the six years period was N1,683,641,713,000 while that of Afam VI Power Plant revenue loss due to power outage was N834,520,443,200 The outcome of the study shows that both Egbin and Afam VI Power Plants operate below international industrial best standard. Recommendations were made to improve their output supply capacities and efficiencies.
