HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTIVITY OF SOME SELECTED MANUFACTURING FIRMS IN THE ENUGU METROPOLIS

The study examined the impact of human capital development on the productivity of some selected manufacturing firms in the Enugu state. Other objectives were; To determine the effect of employee training on cost efficiency and to ascertain the relationship between workforce development and innovativeness of some selected manufacturing firms in the Enugu state. The study adopts a descriptive survey design for the study. Primary sources of data are the data collected directly by the researcher, the major instruments for collecting this data include; questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The data were presented using a simple table and analysis was done using simple percentages. Hypotheses were tested using SPSS. The result revealed that hypothesis one, f-calculated {842.927} is greater than the f-tabulated {2.7858}, that is, f-cal > f-tab which implies that employee training has a significant positive effect on the cost efficiency of some selected manufacturing firms in Enugu state. While Hypothesis two result revealed that f-calculated {515.315} is greater than the f-tabulated {2.7858}, that is, f-cal > f-tab therefore, there is a significant relationship between workforce development and the innovativeness of some selected manufacturing firms in Enugu state. We concluded from the analysis that there is a significant relationship between Employee training having a positive effect on cost efficiency and there is a significant relationship between workforce development and the innovativeness of some selected manufacturing firms in the Enugu state. We recommended that training and development as tools for achieving human capital development in organizations
