Abstract

The study investigated communication pattern and organisational efficiency in Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation, Akwa Ibom State. The following objectives guided the study: find out the pattern of communication flow in Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC); ascertain the influence of communication pattern in promoting organisational efficiency in AKBC; determine if effective communication enhances organisational efficiency in AKBC and identify the barriers to effective communication flow in AKBC. Modern organisation theory and Taylorism theory provided the theoretical framework. The study used survey as research design, with structured questionnaire for data collection. The study adopted census because of the size of the population; 253 staff members of the organisation formed sample size. Findings revealed that the predominant communication pattern adopted by AKBC is vertical (down-ward communication) 60%). Furthermore, majority of respondents (40.4%) agreed that effective communication enhanced organisational efficiency significantly. It was recommended that management of AKBC should adopt a hybrid of communication patterns which include downward, upward, horizontal as well as informal communication to enhance organisational efficiency.
