INTEGRATION OF SOLAR- POWERED DYNAMIC VOLTAGE RESTORERS FOR IMPROVED POWER QUALITY IN DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS.

This paper focuses on the Integration of solar-powered dynamic voltage restorer in a distribution system in order to enhance power quality in Finima, Bonny Island power distribution system, which has been characterized with voltage sags and voltage swells, thereby, creating power quality issues. To mitigate these power quality problems, solar powered DVR with Artificial Neural Network Controller (ANN) is installed in the network and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink 2018 application software tool. The simulation results obtained from the existing network shows that nine (9) bus voltage violates nominal voltage limit (0.95-1.0Pu). But, when   solar powered DVR with artificial neural network controller was installed in the network, all bus voltages lies within the nominal voltage limit(0.95-1.0pu) as stipulated by IEEE, also, it compensate voltage sags during disturbance on the distribution system in a short time (less than 20ms) and prevent tripping or loss of sensitive loads. It also reduces the Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) less than 5%.
